The “The gas chamber” is one of the most disturbing images ever to come out of Auschwitz, and not just because the images are so disturbing. As the Holocaust unfolded, it became clear to both the world and to us that the event was an intentional plan to use the victims as human shields.

In a way, this makes sense. The Holocaust is a terrible event, and the people who survived were victims of this horrific tragedy. However, we don’t see the horrific images that were used to portray the Nazis’ atrocities. But they are present nonetheless.
